Lucy (Giovinco) Sandelin’s bowling career started when she was just 6 years old. Her parents introduced her to bowling and soon it became the biggest part of her life…it’s where she formed many life-long friendships, gave her a college education, enabled her to travel around the globe, found her soul-mate and husband and currently living her dream job as a bowling instructor.
Lucy is a World Cup champion and has been a Team USA member an astounding 10 times. While on the team she captured numerous gold medals. Lucy is also a USBC Hall of Fame member.
Lucy became a Silver Level coach in 1997. It wasn’t until 2007, that she found a new passion-Coaching. In January 2007, Lucy was diagnosed with Fallopian Cancer. She underwent surgery and also 6 rounds of chemotherapy. While her energy and hair was slipping away, she still looked forward to being at the lanes for the high school students. She would have her husband drive her there because it was at the lanes where she was just “Coach”, not a “cancer patient”. Today she is a cancer survivor, still competes, and teaches the sport she loves in the Tampa area.
Lucy’s favorite saying has been “Success is when Opportunity Meets Preparedness” and she realized that this has applied to all facets of her life; whether it be during sickness, health, career or love. Be ready when opportunity presents itself and success won’t be far behind.
